Kendra is an experienced multi-instrumental music educator with more than two decades of teaching experience. She began teaching piano in 2002 and subsequently expanded her teaching to violin, viola, guitar, cello, ukulele, drums, erhu and guzheng.

Her formal music qualifications include a Performer’s Certificate in Solo Piano, ABRSM Grade 8 Violin, ABRSM Grade 8 Music Theory, ABRSM Grade 5 Cello and Trinity College Grade 5 Guitar. She is also proficient in viola, ukulele, drums, erhu, guzheng and harp. She has extensive experience teaching cello and has successfully prepared students for ABRSM Cello examinations up to Grade 8, with students achieving Merit.

Kendra has taught students of different ages, abilities and learning styles in both private and school settings. Besides maintaining a long-standing private teaching practice, she has worked as a music instructor in Singapore schools including Methodist Girls’ School, Anglo-Chinese School, Raffles Girls’ Primary School and Dunman Secondary School. She has also worked as a Music Relief Allied Educator in MOE schools, giving her substantial experience working with children in classroom and individual lesson settings.

Her teaching approach places equal importance on technical development, musical understanding and enjoyment. She believes students should learn more than simply how to play the correct notes. Her lessons also focus on rhythm, intonation, tone production, phrasing, articulation, dynamics, listening skills, sight-reading and musical expression.

Kendra adapts her teaching according to each student’s ability, personality and goals. Students may learn for graded examinations, school requirements, performances, personal development or leisure. She also places strong emphasis on teaching students how to practise effectively and independently, so that they are able to make meaningful progress between lessons.

Her experience across many different instruments allows her to approach music education from a broad perspective. She is able to connect concepts such as rhythm, harmony, notation, phrasing and ensemble awareness across different instruments, which is particularly beneficial for students who learn more than one instrument.

Kendra is also an experienced performer and has performed regularly at weddings, corporate functions, charity events and private events. Her notable engagements have included performances at The St. Regis Singapore, The Ritz-Carlton, ArtScience Museum and ParkRoyal, as well as a violin duet performance at the SG Grand Bridal Fashion Show, which received television and media coverage.

She has also performed at high-profile private events, including the wedding of Philippine public figures Mark Villar and Emmeline Aglipay. Her performance experience includes piano solos, violin duets, ensemble work and instrumental accompaniment.

As an educator, Kendra believes that music lessons should develop not only examination skills, but also confidence, discipline, creativity, musical sensitivity and a lifelong appreciation of music. Her aim is to help each student develop strong foundations while progressing at a pace suited to their individual needs and goals.
