What you should prepare before starting online guitar lessons:

Have you always wanted to learn to play the electric guitar? You may be clueless as to what you should prepare before you learn guitar online. There are quite a lot of things to prepare, aside from the electric guitar itself. You can go to a guitar community and ask questions there, or you can hunt around for friends who play this musical instrument and get to know the details. Here, I have compiled a list of essential items as well as valuable tips to prepare. Whether you are just a new guitarist dipping your toes into the world of online guitar classes, or aim to be an expert guitarist who can perform on stage, this is the best all-in-one guide for newbies. So read on:

1. The amplifier. This is absolutely important as it is always the constant companion to the electric guitar. Without the amplifier, when you play on the guitar, there is not much sound emitting out from the instrument. A good amplifier helps to showcase the full sound potential from your guitar. It is not necessary to spend thousands of dollars if you are just starting out, for an amplifier. Talk to your local guitar shop owner to understand the range available. Try a few amplifiers across several price points. Assess the tone quality emitting out from the amp and match that to your comfortable budget.

2. The cable. With your new amplifier and electric guitar, you need a cable to link these two up. Without a cable, the amplifier does not work. There are different cable lengths available. Check out the measurement and measure that against the space which you will be doing your guitar practice sessions. It is always better to get a slightly longer cable that what you think you need, in case you move your practice space in the future.

3. The guitar strap. The electric guitar itself is a heavy musical instrument. You will need to get a guitar strap which holds its weight so that you can be hands free during breaks. These come in different colors, width and length. Some guitar shops also have customized guitar straps where you can choose the pattern of the strap or have your initials added.

4. The Tuner. As a new learner to any musical instrument, if you do not have any music background before you start to learn guitar online, you do not have perfect pitch or intonation. As such you will need a tuner to assist you in perfect pitching when you tune the guitar. Otherwise you will always need to rely on your guitar teacher to tune your guitar during weekly lessons. You may be practicing on your guitar in between lessons, with the musical instrument not perfectly tuned. So it is best to get your own tuner and learn to tune accordingly.

5. Guitar pick. A guitar pick is also known as the plectrum. This is very useful especially when you need to play many notes very fast. You get a louder volume when you use a guitar pick. The tone quality is also better. There are many different types of picks – they vary in the material used, the thickness, the shape, and the texture. All these impact on how you hold and play using it. So you should experiment with different picks to select the one that suits your playing style. Before you start your online guitar class, you should get a few guitar picks. These are rather small and many guitarists misplace them. So it is better to keep one or two spare ones on hand.

6. The Guitar Capo. The capo is actually a clamp which shortens the length of the guitar strings when it is clamped at the neck of the guitar. Esssentially by using this, you change the key of the song which you wish to play. As you expand your repertoire and go into more intermediate level songs, you will need to use a capo.

Now you are ready to start online guitar lessons online as an option. Check out Stradivari String’s beginner and intermediate electric guitar online courses. TESTIMONIALS

  • I was looking around for a good ukulele teacher for my children, and connected with Stradivari Strings. Rita linked me up with teacher Deomar for ukulele lessons for my son. My son is young and it takes him a long time to focus. Deomar has done a brilliant job helping my son learn simple chords and engaging him during the ukulele classes. He also absolutely loves Deomar’s approach to teaching. Aside from that we also bought a really good violin from the shop. Thank you for everything Rita.

  • My mother started ukulele lessons with teacher Deomar. Ukulele teacher Deomar is very professional. He notes your strengths and tailors his ukulele classes to enhance them, thereby keeping you motivated and engaged. He is very patient and even if you have not practiced, he encourages you and goes through the lessons in a pace that suits you. If the lessons are not completed, he does not strictly keep to the time limit and extends the time where necessary. He also gives my mother music scores according to her music tastes, which makes the ukulele lesson much more engaging and motivating for her. It gives my mother great satisfaction when she is able to complete a piece that she likes. All in all, highly recommended for ukulele students who want to learn leisurely and at their own pace.

  • We loved working with Teacher Ade as Sahana’s guitar teacher for the summer. He has the right mix of fun and patience, and he kept the lessons well planned and engaging throughout for our six year old. Sahana had just begun guitar while she has been playing piano for 2 years. She was reluctant to practice guitar as she was better on the Piano. However, Ade recognized that she was interested in playing songs and tweaked his lessons. As a result Sahana has been more excited to practice her skills under Ade’s guidance than she was before. We look forward to engaging him again next summer. Thank you, Ade! PS: we accidentally attended one of Ade’s performances in clarke quay. Wow!! He was unbelievable!

  • Calvin is a dedicated and passionate guitar teacher who encourages his students to go beyond simply just memorising and practicing. He seeks to ensure that I understand the theories behind chords, its progressions, and guitar scales; so that I will be able to better appreciate them and the practices thereafter would become easier. He also encourages me not to just stop there but to use what I have learnt to create my own songs. Calvin is extremely patient and always accommodates my requests of revising theories that he may have already gone through. He also curates his lessons for his students to suit their interests and skills. For example, in a lesson about chord progressions and song keys he got me to pick a song of my choice and we transcribed it together on the spot. Not only did I have a lot fun doing so, but I also learned something in the process. Calvin has definitely helped improved my playing and has boosted my confidence as a guitarist.
