I’ve been playing the viola for about 5 years having learnt the violin prior to switching instruments. He’s professional and dependable. He’s a... lways on time and never misses a lesson. He also manages to do his best to accommodate our schedule if change is required. He comes prepared with specific lesson goals and is committed to the girls’ progress. He’s especially patient with my 4 year old who can be easily distracted during an hour lesson. Yi Jia never loses his cool, and does his best to get her engaged & learning. My 10 year old says she likes Yi Jia because when she has a question or struggles with a part of music, he always stops to explain and re-teach until she gets it. He doesn’t dismiss her questions or let her skip difficult parts of music. She also likes that he challenges her to play more difficult music and patiently teaches and encourages her until she gets it. As an adult learner, initially, I was quite hesitant and worried because I do not have any music background. I am an adult cello student with piano background. My buddy and I were looking to start cello lessons and found Stradivari Strings. He also encourages me not to just stop there but to use what I have learnt to create my own songs. Calvin is extremely patient and always accommodates my requests of revising theories that he may have already gone through. I have been learning violin for over 5 years. While visiting Singapore, I went to all the violin shops in town. I found my dream violin at Stradivari strings. The owner, Rita, helped me to select violin. She is so knowledgeable in this fiel... d! Each violin has its own character and tone quality. While selecting my violin, I also had detailed coaching from Mr Yeo, a very experienced violin coach. He pointed out my bow hold issues and gave me pointers on shifting and executing vibrato. She also likes that he challenges her to play more difficult music and patiently teaches and encourages her until she gets it. My 4 year old says she likes Yi Jia because he teaches about notes and tells her where they are on the piano and strings. She also says Yi Jia is very nice. Yijia is one of those teachers who has deep love for what they are teaching and deeply committed to student progress.

I have been learning violin for over 5 years. While visiting Singapore, I went to all the violin shops in town. I found my dream violin at Stradivari strings. The owner, Rita, helped me to select violin. She is so knowledgeable in this fiel... d! Each violin has its own character and tone quality. My mother started ukulele lessons with teacher Deomar. Ukulele teacher Deomar is very professional. He notes your strengths and tailors his ukulele classes to enhance them, thereby keeping you motivated and engaged. If the lessons are not completed, he does not strictly keep to the time limit and extends the time where necessary. After learning cello on my own for about a year, I approached Rita at Stradivari Strings during the Circuit Breaker for online cello lessons to correct my posture and bowing techniques. I have been having weekly private cello lessons with R... ita for 4 months already. Rita assessed my motivation level for starting beginner cello lessons at ten-out-of-ten motivation level. Selecting my first cello could be confu... sing for a beginner who knew NOTHING about string instruments: “there is a part of the cello bow called ‘FROG’?” “Don’t judge a cello by its look? But this one looks so nice!” ”We are using HORSE hair for the cello bow?” Rita patiently addressed all my queries, listened to my needs, and recommended cello and cello bows that were budget-friendly. It was a pleasant seven-week of adult cello lessons so far at Stradivari Strings. Rita is friendly, patient, and more importantly she is able to adjust the syllabus based on my own learning pace. After all, there is no “one size fits all” as every student learns differently. Of course there were weeks with minimal progress and those weeks were draggy and filled with disappointment; I shared my difficulties encountered during cello practice and Rita addressed all of them and encouraged me to keep pushing myself. Six out of seven days a week I am with my cello (at least a “Hi” and a pat on its shoulder ^_^). It is like having a relationship with it: there are sweet and sorrow moments as we get along; I believe we are both learning to fit each other perfectly, and I know that I am in love with it tender-heartedly.

He notes your strengths and tailors his ukulele classes to enhance them, thereby keeping you motivated and engaged. If the lessons are not completed, he does not strictly keep to the time limit and extends the time where necessary. We loved working with Teacher Ade as Sahana’s guitar teacher for the summer. He has the right mix of fun and patience, and he kept the lessons well planned and engaging throughout for our six year old. Sahana had just begun guitar while she...  has been playing piano for 2 years. She was reluctant to practice guitar as she was better on the Piano. However, Ade recognized that she was interested in playing songs and tweaked his lessons. As a result Sahana has been more excited to practice her skills under Ade’s guidance than she was before. My electric guitar teacher’s approach to teaching music theory through jamming, makes the learning experience more fun and motivating

Calvin is a dedicated and passionate guitar teacher who encourages his students to go beyond simply just memorising and practicing. He seeks to ensure that I understand the theories behind chords, its progressions, and guitar scales; so tha... t I will be able to better appreciate them and the practices thereafter would become easier. He also encourages me not to just stop there but to use what I have learnt to create my own songs. Calvin is extremely patient and always accommodates my requests of revising theories that he may have already gone through. He also curates his lessons for his students to suit their interests and skills. For example, in a lesson about chord progressions and song keys he got me to pick a song of my choice and we transcribed it together on the spot. Not only did I have a lot fun doing so, but I also learned something in the process. Calvin has definitely helped improved my playing and has boosted my confidence as a guitarist.

We walked into Rita’s shop that day despite in searching for a 1/2 size violin for our 6-year old boy. Despite of no appointment made, Rita was very patient in understanding our needs. I started my violin lesson with Stradivari Strings after a 10 years break. I’ve been playing the viola for about 5 years having learnt the violin prior to switching instruments. When I first walked into Stradivari Strings to re-string my violin, I didn’t know I’ve walked into a whole new world of experience. Rita could tell I have a lot of interest in picking up violin. And with her sharp eyes, she could tell my old violin was factory made and of low quality. She then proceeded to set up an appointment with me for a new violin since I was so interested. During the appointment, Rita made sure to let me play and emote with each violin and bow, it was a hands on session of playing on a range of violin and bow. She also shared her vast knowledge and experience on violin with me. Throughout the 2 hour appointment on selecting violin and bow, I was taking in all the teachings she had to offer. I am an adult cello student with piano background. My buddy and I were looking to start cello lessons and found Stradivari Strings. I was impressed with the patience and knowledge Rita has in helping me to select the cello and bow most suited for me. Her specialized shop has a range of cellos and bows that caters to students with different budget in mind. Group cello lessons under Rita has also helped me to transit from piano playing to cello playing effectively. I’ve had the privilege of being under the tutelage of Mr Yeo for violin lessons, for about 15 months. Looking to re-pick up the violin amidst the gloom, uncertainty and restrictions of COVID in 2020, I chanced upon Stradivari and was subsequently matched with Mr Yeo for violin lessons. While I had some experience in violin as a child (till Grade 3), this was about 3 decades ago, and I was initially apprehensive about being matched with a teacher of Mr Yeo’s high caliber. Thankfully, Mr Yeo was well able to allay my fears. With his experience, Mr Yeo has a unique ability to adopt a teaching style to best suit the individual student. As an adult learner having violin classes ad hoc while balancing other responsibilities, I am most grateful for the freedom he gave me to explore the instrument and music on my own. Instead of being over-prescriptive, there was a good emphasis on establishing good basics and technique, thinking for oneself and leveraging on what was learnt before to push ahead to more advanced material. If one would have told me I’d be covering material around the Grade 7 level within a year as a returning beginner, I would not have believed you! Mr Yeo’s lessons also contained little nuggets of history, putting the music in the context of the times, allowing for a deeper appreciation of the material. Importantly I’d also gained a friend in Mr Yeo, as we talked about life, and shared in events such as the birth of my 3rd child. I am an advanced level violin student and was looking for a professional level violin teacher to polish my techniques. I contacted Stradivari Strings and started violin lessons with Mr Yeo. My daughter wanted very much to learn cello as her second music instrument, but without any knowledge of cello, we searched online to find out where to buy cello. We found Stradivari Strings and arranged an appointment with Ms Rita. We had such a wonderful experience — Rita spent a total of 3 hours with my daughter. During the selection process, she patiently explained the different wood qualities in making cello and bows, and guided my daughter to play on the range available so she can identify the tone quality she likes. With Ms Rita’s unhurried assistance, my daughter was allowed to test play the range of cello and bows. Finally she found the perfect cello and bow and will start with a professional level coach for lessons. My whole experience with Stradivari Strings is very positive. And I am very happy that we came to the right shop and enlisted the assistance of the right person to get the perfect cello and bow for my daughter.

I have been learning the cello for one year. The lessons are practical focus and I find that I needed theory lessons to supplement the practical part, so that I get a total understanding of reading music. Stradivari Strings found me a music...  theory teacher who comes to my workplace for music theory lessons during my lunch break. This is a perfect arrangement and I have been progressing well.

Technique is of paramount importance when it comes to playing music. I have been with teacher Joyce (bamboo flute) for 2 years. She has taught me the necessary fundamentals in the playing of the Chinese flute. Under her patient teaching and...  guidance, I achieved distinction in both grade 5 and 8 dizi examinations. I believe that her teaching is commendable and very suitable for students who are still grasping their basics in Chinese flute.

We walked into Rita’s shop that day despite in searching for a 1/2 size violin for our 6-year old boy. Despite of no appointment made, Rita was very patient in understanding our needs. I have been playing Chinese musical instrument for many years and one of my dreams is to pick up a western musical instrument – the violin. As someone who knows nothing about the violin, Rita from Stradivari Strings guided me through the violin and bow selection patiently and the process was very informative. I’ve always wanted to learn the violin so after doing some research, I came across Stradivari Strings. I decided to contact Rita cos the plenty of positive reviews convinced me to give Stradivari Strings a try. Teacher Rita is very prompt with answering questions on WhatsApp. The violin and bow selection process was very insightful. Teacher Rita let me try out some violins and bows to find the perfect match for me. I initially wanted a factory-made violin but after the selection process I went for a 100% handcrafted violin and I don’t have any regrets. A handcrafted violin produces a more beautiful sound than a factory-made one. For violin lessons, Teacher Rita was patient, stern, and encouraging at the same time. I like how she’s stern when she needs to be for us to perform better, yet very encouraging at things done right. I highly recommend Stradivari Strings. I’m an adult beginner so it’s really never too late to pick up a new instrument and enjoy it with the right teacher.

As an adult learner with no musical background, I am so glad to have chosen Stradivari Strings to kickstart my violin lessons with. I started my violin lesson with Stradivari Strings after a 10 years break. Without any proper knowledge on how to choose my instrument, I was glad to have walk into this place where I was educated on the different violin choices as well as the separate bow pairing for each violin. I was given the opportunity to try the violins and the different bow pairings to hear and see for myself which is the best for me. I’ve been playing the viola for about 5 years having learnt the violin prior to switching instruments. I haven’t had any formal viola lessons before this year, and as the viola is not as popular an instrument as the violin or cello, finding a viola teacher proved difficult, and finding a GOOD viola teacher was almost impossible. As an adult with autism, just finding a teacher who could connect with me on my wavelength is a challenging task, and I’ve gone through numerous music teachers in the past, and many could not break down the barrier that is autism. On meeting Mr Yeo, my worries dissipated. Mr Yeo is very patient and encouraging during lessons, and explains things in a way that is both easy to grasp and fun! Mr Yeo also further motivates me in my practice by giving me feedback on video recordings of my practice sessions when I send them to him so that I can make the most out of my viola practice. Since starting viola lessons, I’ve improved by leaps and bounds. I’ve only had 4 adult viola lessons with him and yet I feel like I’ve had many more because of my progress. I have a strong desire to learn to play the violin and started adult beginner violin lessons with Stradivari Strings. As I did not have any music background before starting adult violin classes, Rita patiently coached me rhythmic training, ... note reading and music theory in addition to the tips of playing the violin. Teacher Hughes is a dedicated teacher who goes the extra mile to ensure that his students enjoy learning. His teaching is very musically based, with many different genres of song selected to develop one’s technique and musicality simultaneously. His witty and friendly personality makes lessons fun, and his deep knowledge and appreciation of music makes songs come alive during his lessons. Hughes is definitely one of the best music teachers around!

One of the best things that happened to me this year is getting in touch with my cello teacher Ms Rita. I started lessons since January and have come to enjoy my Singapore cello lessons for a variety of reasons: First, for effective learning to occur, it’s important that there is a personal student-teacher fit. This is the first consideration in learning an instrument on a 1-1 basis. Right from the get-go, I found Rita to have an excellent social and communication skills and a winsome sense of humour, a prerequisite for me. This has made cello classes for me really enjoyable. Second, very early in our pre-lesson discussion, Rita impressed me as a very knowledgeable person about the art and manufacture of the cello and cello bow. Her intimate historical and technical knowledge of how the instrument is crafted and it’s impact on its sound quality (and intrinsic value) persuaded me that I have made a good decision to take beginner cello lessons from her. I have been taking violin classes from Mr Yeo for since 2016, and each lesson has been very enjoyable and fun. Mr Yeo is always smiling and very happy which puts me at ease while learning difficult passages or techniques. He is also very ha... ppy to explain to me the reasoning behind certain playing techniques which helps me appreciate playing the violin even more. When I first walked into Stradivari Strings to re-string my violin, I didn’t know I’ve walked into a whole new world of experience. Rita could tell I have a lot of interest in picking up violin. And with her sharp eyes, she could tell my old violin was factory made and of low quality. She then proceeded to set up an appointment with me for a new violin since I was so interested. During the appointment, Rita made sure to let me play and emote with each violin and bow, it was a hands on session of playing on a range of violin and bow. She also shared her vast knowledge and experience on violin with me. Throughout the 2 hour appointment on selecting violin and bow, I was taking in all the teachings she had to offer. Alas, I found one that I really loved, although a little out of my budget, Rita took the time and offered to help with financial planning. The class afterwards with Mr Yeo was also amazing. I had learnt so much in 45 mins that I could play twinkle twinkle little star within that session. Thank you Rita and thank you Stradivari Strings for the immersing experience! Highly recommended!

We highly recommend one-on-one lessons to save time, get targeted feedback from the coach, and progress well. Group lessons are less effective, as the teacher’s attention is split between the number of students in the class. In addition, the pace of the lesson is as slow as the slowest student in the class.

Clean the rosin dust from the strings and surrounding area. Unwind the bow before storing. Store your violin or cello in a space that does not have extreme temperatures. Send your bowed string instrument to a professional to have it serviced regularly. Our luthier at Stradivari Strings is highly recommended.

Poor posture, tuning the violin or cello without proper instructions, skipping lessons, and reducing the frequency of practice are frequent issues.
