The violin is a bowed string instrument which requires mastery of perfect intonation, hand arm and finger coordination. Violin scores are written on the treble clef. So we cannot definitely say that starting violin lessons as an adult is easier or more difficult versus piano lessons. To be sure, you can contact Stradivari Strings at +65-98137769 to try out both instruments before you decide.

You should be able to see and play on the viola which you intend to purchase. • Should I buy a violin online or in person?

Once in a while, a violin student comes to me with a violin acquired online. Sometimes, the violin bought online is not properly set up — some come with violin bridge which is not cut to the correct height and curvature, some arrive with the sound post inside the violin rolling around in the violin. Most students are disappointed with the tone quality of the violin purchased online. So my advice will be to go to a shop specializing in violin, to select your violin in person.

In my opinion, private one to one violin lesson is more effective as the violin teacher can focus on the student 100%. If you buy a cello, you have the sense of ownership over the cello and this will actually speed up your learning progress. A rental cello may not be your preferred musical instrument in terms of tone quality and playability, so this may not inspire you to spend time to practice during the days in between your cello lessons. Aside from that, the rental cello bow may not be to the ideal weight and balance point for you, so you may find that you are not sure if you are practicing your cello playing techniques properly. Having said that, if you feel that you need some time to acquaint yourself with how the cello is played before investing in one, do proceed with renting one.
