HOW IS YOUR SCHEDULE LIKE?

Is your schedule very flexible and can you have music lessons (like violin lessons online) any day and any time? Or do you have work or school commitments thus can only have music lessons outside of these hours? Would you like weekly lessons or wish to accelerate your progress by planning lessons two times a week? Are you relatively free and so have a lot of time to spend on quality and mindful practice? HOW LONG SHOULD EACH LESSON DURATION LAST?

It depends on the student’s age and the level. A young student age 3 to 5 may start with 30 minute lesson. Beginner students typically can plan 45 minute lesson while advanced level students need 1 hour or 1.5 hour lesson duration as the repertoire is longer. Advance level techniques also require more time to explain, demonstrate and refine.

My daughter wanted very much to learn cello as her second music instrument, but without any knowledge of cello, we searched online to find out where to buy cello. I’ve always wanted to learn the violin so after doing some research, I came across Stradivari Strings. I initially wanted a factory-made violin but after the selection process I went for a 100% handcrafted violin and I don’t have any regrets. I’ve been playing the viola for about 5 years having learnt the violin prior to switching instruments. I haven’t had any formal viola lessons before this year, and as the viola is not as popular an instrument as the violin or cello, finding a viola teacher proved difficult, and finding a GOOD viola teacher was almost impossible. As an adult with autism, just finding a teacher who could connect with me on my wavelength is a challenging task, and I’ve gone through numerous music teachers in the past, and many could not break down the barrier that is autism. One of the best things that happened to me this year is getting in touch with my cello teacher Ms Rita. I started lessons since January and have come to enjoy my Singapore cello lessons for a variety of reasons: First, for effective learning to occur, it’s important that there is a personal student-teacher fit. This is the first consideration in learning an instrument on a 1-1 basis. Right from the get-go, I found Rita to have an excellent social and communication skills and a winsome sense of humour, a prerequisite for me. This has made cello classes for me really enjoyable. When I first walked into Stradivari Strings to re-string my violin, I didn’t know I’ve walked into a whole new world of experience. Rita could tell I have a lot of interest in picking up violin. And with her sharp eyes, she could tell my old violin was factory made and of low quality. She then proceeded to set up an appointment with me for a new violin since I was so interested. During the appointment, Rita made sure to let me play and emote with each violin and bow, it was a hands on session of playing on a range of violin and bow. She also shared her vast knowledge and experience on violin with me. Throughout the 2 hour appointment on selecting violin and bow, I was taking in all the teachings she had to offer.   • Are online music lessons effective?

    Online music lessons can be effective as long as the student pays attention 100% during the lesson, absorb what is being taught and replicate the technique taught. External factors which may hinder the effectiveness of online music classes include the lack of ability of the music teacher to adjust posture and position of the student, the quality of internet connection, and the quality of the equipment used which includes the laptop, microphone and camera.

  • How much do online music lessons cost?

    This depends on a number of factors including which musical instrument — typically saxophone, flute, cello, viola and violin lessons are higher priced versus guitar, piano and ukulele lessons. Reason being there are less such music teachers specializing in the higher fees musical instrument. A function of demand and supply. Typically one can budget from $30 per lesson for 30 minute lesson.   • Are online music classes cheaper?

    Yes online music classes are cheaper when you compare it to face-to-face lessons. Reason being we remove the need to travel. So you do not need to factor travel costs as well as time it costs for the music teacher to travel.

  • Can music lessons be taught online?

    Music lessons can certainly be taught online. There are many places worldwide where one may not necessarily have a music teacher specializing in the musical instrument you wish to learn. The next best option would be to scout for a coach anywhere in the world and start online music classes.

  • Are Online violin lessons worth it?

    Online music lessons are certainly worth it if you are removing the costs of travel as well as paying for the music teacher’s time to travel to the music studio or to your place for lessons. The difference saved per lesson over a time frame of 6 months can probably go towards a few extra music classes.
