Violin, Viola, Music Theory

Preston is a multi-instrumentalist and composer/arranger, proficient in performance and improvisation on the violin, viola, and electric bass. He  holistically engages with music in its different practices, and benefits from experiences with classical, traditional, folk, contemporary and popular styles to inform his craft and artistry. He is a passionate teacher who aims to inculcate musical critical thinking in his students, incorporating theory and analysis into his teaching methods along with an acute awareness of the physicality of playing the instrument.

He is a current student at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), majoring in Music Collaboration and Production. On the violin, he was under the tutelage of Loh Jun Hong and Chan Yoong Han in his years at School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA), and is currently mentored by David Loke at YST.

He often performs with the Orchestra of Music Makers (OMM) and Marsiling Chinese Orchestra (MCO), co-writes and releases music with Impermanence (无常乐). He also engages in community projects and work that promotes the arts and education, and is currently a primary school string ensemble instructor.
